The Kelley Ball Penetration Apparatus is designed for the rapid determination of the workability and consistency of freshly mixed Portland cement concrete in accordance with ASTM C360. The Kelley Ball Test is a simple, reliable, and faster alternative to the conventional slump test, making it ideal for on-site quality control.
The test measures the depth of penetration of a 15 kg ball-shaped plunger into fresh concrete. The penetration value provides a direct indication of concrete workability, with twice the Kelley Ball penetration approximately equal to the corresponding slump value.

Operating Instructions
The Kelley Ball Penetration Apparatus determines the workability of fresh concrete by allowing a 15 kg ball-shaped plunger to penetrate the concrete surface under its own weight. The depth of penetration is measured directly from the graduated handle to the nearest 0.5 mm. The measured penetration value is used to estimate concrete consistency, with approximately twice the Kelley Ball reading corresponding to the conventional slump value.
