Concrete Test Hammer (Schmidt Hammer) N Type
Product Code: MSI 2068
Product Description:
The Concrete Test Hammer (Schmidt Rebound Hammer) is an indispensable, nondestructive field instrument used for rapid structural audits to estimate the compressive strength of hardened concrete structures. Built in full structural alignment with IS: 13311 (Part 2), ASTM C805, and BS EN 12504-2, this premium mechanical gauge operates via a spring-loaded impact hammer plunger that delivers a standardized kinetic energy strike to the concrete face. The resulting rebound distance is registered on a high-contrast mechanical slider scale as an "R-Value", which is converted instantly into estimated compressive strength via the integrated calibration chart. Supplied in a rugged, impact-resistant carrying case complete with a carborundum stone for face preparation.
🎯 Applications
Non-Destructive Compressive Strength Evaluation of Hardened Concrete
Uniform Concrete Quality Control Audits across Structural Spans
In-Situ Structural Strength Verification & Rapid Identification of Weak Spots
Post-Formwork Removal Curing Soundness Inspections
Civil Engineering, Forensics, & Structural Calibration Laboratories
Ready Mix Concrete (RMC) Plants & Building Rehabilitation Audits
⭐ Features
Global Standard Compliance: Extensively engineered to satisfy the strict testing protocols of ASTM C805, EN 12504-2, and BS 1881:202.
Non-Destructive Metrics: Evaluates real-time structural load capacities without the costly downtime or material destruction of core drilling.
N-Type Impact Energy: Delivers the standard 2.207 Nm impact kinetic energy, perfectly calibrated for general civil engineering construction components.
Instant Direct Readout: Features a clear visual slide indicator scale that captures the peak rebound value (\(\textit{R}-\)value) on impact.
Rugged Portable Design: Built into a heavy-duty cylindrical chassis designed for fast, repetitive manual operation under harsh site conditions.
High Contrast Calibration Curves: The outer shell houses clear reference charts to convert mechanical rebound numbers directly to compressive strength metrics (MPa / PSI).

🔬 Working Principle
The target concrete surface is pre-cleaned and ground smooth using the supplied carborundum stone to remove loose paste layers. The operator pushes the test hammer plunger completely out of the chassis casing until it locks. The plunger tip is held perpendicular against the concrete face, and the housing is pushed forward steadily.
This mechanical stroke compresses an internal high-tensile spring until it releases a latch, launching the internal hammer mass against the plunger face with a standard 2.207 Nm impact energy. On impact, the mass rebounds backwards, dragging a visual pointer along the graduated scale. The resulting rebound number (\(\textit{R}-\)value) is noted and cross-referenced with the angle conversion charts to read the localized compressive strength immediately.
💡 Advantages
Saves thousands in core drilling budgets by allowing instant preliminary strength filtering over vast surface areas.
Pinpoints weak spots instantly, highlighting consolidation honeycombing or structural damage without affecting structural integrity.
Completely field independent with a purely mechanical design that requires no electric batteries or grid charging.
Includes carborundum dressing tools to prevent surface laitance errors from skewing rebound indexes.
