ULTRASONIC PULSE VELOCITY TESTER
Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity Tester for Concrete | Non-Destructive Concrete Crack & Cavity Void Detector
Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity Tester for Concrete | Non-Destructive Concrete Crack & Cavity Void Detector
Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity Tester
Product Code: MSI 2071
The Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity Tester is a high-precision, 4th-generation non-destructive testing (NDT) instrument engineered to assess the internal structural integrity, uniformity, and strength of hardened concrete. Developed through cooperative research with a national research institute of standards and science and subsidized by the Ministry of Science & Technology, this highly advanced system measures the travel time of high-voltage ultrasonic waves passing through solid materials with extreme accuracy.
The velocity of an ultrasonic wave through concrete is directly determined by its elastic properties and density. When concrete features excellent compressive strength and structural sound density, the transit time is remarkably short. Conversely, internal faults reduce wave speed. Equipped with highly efficient 52 kHz transducers, this instrument is purpose-built to propagate and capture signals effortlessly through highly attenuative composite materials including concrete, wood, stone, and engineering plastics.

🔬 Working Principle
The control unit generates a high-voltage electrical pulse and directs it into the transmitting transducer. This transducer converts electrical energy into an ultrasonic wave. The wave is transmitted into the concrete face, travels through the material's internal matrix, and is captured by the receiving transducer on the opposite or adjacent side.
The instrument records the wave transit time down to fractions of a microsecond. Because sound waves travel significantly faster through solid aggregate and dense cement paste than through air or water, a low velocity or delayed arrival indicates that the signal has encountered internal honeycombing, a void, or an intersecting crack line.
💡 Advantages
Reveals hidden internal defects that are completely invisible to visual inspection or rebound hammer tests [MSI 2068].
Provides precise depth profiling for cracks, helping engineers determine if structural fissures require critical resin injection or complete demolition.
52 kHz specialized sensors maintain clean signal resolution through thick structural elements without wave dampening.
Saves thousands in structural auditing budgets by replacing disruptive core extraction with fast, multi-point digital testing.
