Accurate Pore Pressure Measurement for Reliable Triaxial Soil Testing
Accurate Pore Pressure Measurement for Reliable Triaxial Soil Testing
The MSI 3058 Pore Pressure Apparatus – 10 kg/cm² is designed for measuring pore-water pressure and pore-air pressure in soil specimens, particularly as an accessory to triaxial testing equipment. The apparatus follows the principles described by A. W. Bishop and D. J. Henkel in Measurement of Soil Properties in Triaxial Tests.
The unit incorporates a wall-mounted control panel with a precision pressure gauge, U-tube manometer, null indicator, burette for measuring specimen volume change, and a manually operated pressure pump. The system provides controlled pressure adjustment and measurement for triaxial soil testing applications.
Designed for pore-water and pore-air pressure measurement.
Suitable as an accessory for triaxial testing apparatus.
Pressure measurement range up to 10 kg/cm².
15 cm diameter Bourdon tube pressure gauge.
U-tube manometer for low positive and negative pore pressures.
Manometer can also be used to check pressure-gauge zero error.
Null indicator with transparent Perspex construction.
50 ml burette for measuring volume changes in soil specimens.
Hand-operated pressure pump for fine pressure adjustment.
Four sleeve-packed valves.
Copper coil and water reservoir supplied on the mounting board.
Complete stand assembly.
Leak tested up to 10 kg/cm².

1. Pressure Gauge
A 150 mm diameter Bourdon tube pressure gauge, graduated from 1 to 10 kg/cm², is provided for pressure measurement.
2. U-Tube Manometer
The glass U-tube manometer is used for:
Measuring low positive pore pressures.
Measuring negative pore pressures.
Checking the zero error of the pressure gauge.
A mercury trap is provided. Mercury is supplied separately at extra cost.
3. Null Indicator
The transparent Perspex null indicator incorporates a mercury trap and cursor arrangement for observing and indicating the mercury level.
4. Burette
A 50 ml burette is provided for measuring volume changes in the soil specimen during testing.
5. Pressure Pump
The hand-operated pressure pump is fitted with four sleeve-packed valves. Pressure is adjusted by a hand wheel attached to the threaded piston rod, providing smooth and fine pressure control.
6. Copper Coil & Water Reservoir
The copper coil and water reservoir are mounted on the board and supplied with the complete stand assembly.
