Liquid Limit Device with Counter
Product Code : MSI 3006
Standard Used : IS 2720 (Part 5) | BS 1377-2 | ASTM D4318
Full compliance with global standards governing mechanical soil mechanics, soil classification, and foundational engineering metrics.
Product Description
The Multitech Scientific Instruments MSI 3006 Liquid Limit Device with Counter is a foundational laboratory testing apparatus used to perform the mechanical Casagrande method. Used for decades in modern soil mechanics, this instrument precisely measures the exact water content at which a soil sample transitions from a liquid state to a plastic state. At this critical threshold, the soil exhibits an approximate shear strength of 0.17 N/cm² (17 gms/sq.cm.). Because determining the true absolute limit is physically impossible as strength transitions towards zero, this apparatus standardizes empirical evaluation by tracking the impact of a calibrated 1 cm drop on a standard hard-rubber base.
Features
Integrated Blow Counter: Features a heavy-duty mechanical counter that registers every single blow automatically, eliminating operator miscounts.
Precision Cam Action: Engineered with a specialized cam mechanism that smoothly raises and drops the brass cup without jerking or sliding.
Adjustable Drop Bracket: Outfitted with an easy-to-calibrate drop adjustment system to maintain a flawless 1 cm drop height.
Standard Hardness Rubber Base: Molded from vulcanized rubber with strict adherence to rebound hardness standards to avoid false energy absorption.
Dual Grooving Tool Capability: Shipped as a complete kit supporting both Indian, British, and American testing methods simultaneously.
Application
Used to calculate the Liquid Limit (LL) required to derive the Plasticity Index (PI) and Compressibility profiles of structural soils.
Essential for predicting the settlement, load-bearing capability, and lower shear strength properties of highway subgrades and building foundations.
Extensively utilized by quality-assurance inspectors, geotechnical engineering consultants, academic institutes, and tier-1 construction laboratories.
