When a wet soil or aggregate sample reacts with the carbide reagent inside the sealed chamber, acetylene gas is generated in direct proportion to the moisture present. This chemical pressure rise is instantly displayed on a calibrated dial gauge, offering a highly reliable alternative to multi-hour laboratory oven-baking methods.
